March in Salt Lake . . .

Conway is a very Irish name but I have not fully embraced our Irish heritage since I inherited the name through marriage and I am not actually Irish. But the Irish just keep haunting me. This is my dad (whose last name is the VERY German Buchmiller - proof of our German ancestry here) on St. Patrick's Day:

My favorite March activity is watching my dad deliver gold chocolate coins to kids at local elementary schools. They fully believe he is a leprechaun. And while Salt Lake is no Boston when it comes to St. Patty's Day, we do boast few activities:

-Irish Poetry. March 1. A night of Irish poetry at St. Mark's Cathedral.

-.Salt Lake St. Patrick's Day Parade and SIAMSA. March 15 at the Gateway. A SIAMSA is a celebration - there will be traditional Irish food, drink and Irish dancers.

-Did you know St. Patrick banished all snakes from Ireland? Find out more at Hogle Zoo's St. Patrick's Day presentation. March 15, 11 and 1. They even have a gold hunt for the kids after the presentation!

-Want something a little more upbeat (and grown up?) Young Dubliners at the Depot, March 15 at 7PM.

-Want to really honor St. Patrick? St. Patrick's Day Mass, March 16, 5PM at St. Joseph the Worker. Corned beef and cabbage dinner after the mass.

Happy St. Patty's Day!
