TOUR TUESDAY - They didn't sleep for 6 months

Today's tour is a true DIY project. The cute owners of this house, Heather and Chad, did every inch of work in this home with their own hands (with some help from family and friends).

When we first looked at this house Heather and Chad passed on it because it needed so much work, but deep down they knew it was their house. After looking at it several times they formulated a plan and decided they could make this into the perfect house for their family. They moved into the basement of the house (which has a small second kitchen) for 6 months while they gutted the upstairs.

The kitchen was good sized but the hanging cabinets over the peninsula made it feel cramped and dated and the laminate floors were water damaged.

Heather and Chad took the existing cabinets, reconfigured them, painted them and added new hardware:

With the exception of the island, every cabinet in the kitchen was pulled from the old cabinets. Impressive, huh? Chad tiled the floor in the kitchen, dining nook and continued the tile down the hall.

The kitchen is the star of this remodel (isn't it always?), but the rest of the house got an update as well. Here was the living room/family room before:

And after:

Chad and his brother even made the wooden mantel themselves! They did a great job and now we all wish them a few good nights sleep before they embark on their next project!
